Letting go

We must be willing to let go of the life we have planned, so as to accept the life that is waiting for us.
/Joseph Campbell/

This is time to celebrate and contemplate the balance of darkness and light, balance between the day and the night. Depending where you are in the world, it is either 22nd or 23rd September. Autumn Equinox.

This is time to celebrate rich harvest, celebrate the gifts of the Earth and say ‘thank you’ for them. But we also need to accept that we are turning towards the cold and the dark; the soil is dying; from now on the nights will grow longer and darker till Winter Solstice.

The Cycles of Nature are never ending. The same cycles exist in human’s life. Joy would not be recognized if sorrow did not exist and the deeper the darkness of the soul, the bigger the depth of love you can experience.

My son Edzus died 23rd September – beautiful sunny day nine years ago. I perceived his death as both – blessing as his suffering ended and unexplainable pain as hope for him ever being with me died too. Then I didn’t know that he would be with me forever as there is no separation between souls. I guess it really takes some time and lots of inner work to be at peace with somebody’s physical decease if we have loved them so much.

Autumn Equinox is a good time when nature offers opportunities to release grief, accumulated negative patterns, beliefs and emotions; and attract the energies of love, peace, success and wellbeing.

Beautiful autumn maple leaves backgroundHere is a beautiful ritual to do so.

Go somewhere in the nature. It’s great to do it in solitude, but if you are with someone, don’t talk or communicate in any way. Allow this time to be sacred for yourself. Pick up a bunch of colourful beautiful autumn tree leaves. Tie them with a ribbon. You can also make a wreath from leaves. The process itself is magical as by doing that you are creating your personal seal. Go within; reflect on the most memorable things, places, people since last year equinox: what has been going on well, what needs different perspective, what is it that you would want to release?

When the wreath or a bunch of leaves is ready, burn the leaves in a small fire you make (be aware of safety at all times, of course). Putting the leaves in the fire, say: ‘’What is gone, I leave behind, I let it go; What has to come, I accept; What is now, is mine,  no one else’s’’.

You can come up with your own version of letting go and accepting words and phrases. Say what feels right and what brings relief. Feelings you put in the process are more important than the words.

Imagine that with leaves all the unpleasant situations, all pain and sorrow, regrets, resentments, anger is also burn and all is left is ashes. But along with the flames there rises positive energy that gives inspiration and strength for a new day, new hopes, new achievements, new successes, and new life.

If you let go a little, you will have a little peace. If you let go a lot, you will have a lot of peace.
